High Vacuum Technology

Introduction

The course will cover a wide range of topics in vacuum technology including:
- Gas Laws
- Viscous and Molecular Flows
- Outgassing, Diffusion, Evaporation, Real & Virtual Leaks
- Working Principles of Mechanical & Diffusion Pumps
- Mechanics of Gas Ballast
- Vacuum Instrumentation & Control of Vacuum Systems
- Getter and Cryo-Pumping
- Cleaning & Sealing Techniques in Vacuum
- Design & Fabrication of Vacuum Accessories
- Materials for Vacuum Applications
- Trouble-shooting Procedures for Vacuum Problems

Course Objectives

Vacuum systems are widely used in Singapore, especially in the manufacturing industries. The benefits and applications of vacuum technology are obvious. Less obvious are how these systems operate and how they are maintained. This course, therefore, is designed to familiarise participants with the essential understanding of how to design, operate and maintain vacuum systems.
